Good news!

My sweet husband bought me a piano! I am looking forward to playing on it and have many fun evenings!

Before the invention of television, many households relied on pianos for entertainment. It is a tradition that is not as prominent now, unfortunately!

How about you? Do you have one and would you like to learn how to play it?

Today's educational system

Today's educational system is so expensive and complicated. Back in the 50's, a man could support his whole family with a high school diploma. Now, sometimes a masters degree isn't enough! Many graduates cannot even find jobs!

Even employers now are looking for secretaries with a Bachelor's degree!

More and more labor is being shifted overseas as we lose jobs here.

In today's world, intellectual jobs are being targeted as "the best" to aim, but we still need technicians, plumbers, construction workers, plumbers, repairmen, etc.

I am worried for all those young adults who will graduate with so much student loan debt!

Why I'm no longer on Facebook

I really thought I'd like it at first, but with all the changing privacy settings, it really put me off.

I also much prefer old fashioned contact over modern media's. I find a phone call or a letter much lovelier!

I was friends with people I hadn't seen in almost ten years and that I had no intention of seeing again "in real life". This old fashioned gal found it too annoying in the end!

It is just like popular music: give me old standards over any of the current pop trends! I just think that sometimes, reinventing the wheel is simply unnecessary.

Do you have a daily routine? I tend to go with the flow with an idea of what to do. The web site has also helped me a lot!

I write to-do lists as well as weekly lists.

How about you? What is your schedule?

Male characters in the entertainment industry

I have noticed that more and more male characters in commercials, TV shows and movies are being portrayed as weak and unintelligent compared to female characters.

We have feminism to thank for that! In the 50's, shows such as "Father knows best" portrayed strong male family leaders who were respectful of their wives, children and others.

Now we couldn't find that if we tried, especially in sitcoms in which the woman is almost always smarter than the man and men often get slapped for a laugh.

I really don't understand why this shift happened so drastically! It just shows us how much society has really changed since the 1950's...

The art of homemaking

I think that homemaking is really an art. When you think about it: cooking, cleaning, budgeting, organizing, baking, decorating, gardening, sewing, shopping...

I do feel like I am an artist in my home. It takes a great creative mind to be the CEO of a household!

It is a shame that this occupation is no longer viewed as valid by our post-industrial revolution society!
