Eating produce in season

I always prefer to eat produce when it is in season as it tastes better and it is also cheaper!

This summer, we find these fruits and vegetables in season:

-Beets
-Peaches
-Brocoli
-Raspberries
-Strawberries
-Bueberries
-Blackberries
-Corn
-Spinach
-Green beans
-Cherries
-Zucchinis
-Tomatoes

I love making plenty of Italian tomato bread salad during the summer as well as eating grilled foods!

No more perfectionism!

My perfectionism keeps me from blessing our home with my daily chores sometimes.

What I mean by that is that I tend to procrastinate in the fear that my chore won't be "perfect enough".

I prefer to do daily chores instead of waiting for a cleaning day and consequently crashing and burning! Yet I still allow my perfectionism to interfere with my thoughts and actions.

I think I will always be a perfectionist in everything that I do because I always put all of my heart into whatever I do! I just need to learn to enjoy the process of cleaning more and not so much the end result, however imperfect!

The new Disney movie "Brave"

I haven't seen it, but I have heard that it is about a princess who decides that she doesn't need a prince and so she remains single.

Here is an excellent review:

Call me old fashioned, but I really wonder why the creators of this movie think that little girls would love this ending when in reality, most little girls daydream about their wedding day?

Don't get me wrong: new Disney movies don't have to portray weak female characters that are only waiting for their princes to rescue them, but does it have to be the other extreme?

It makes no sense, plus it appears that they portrayed men as very weak. It sounds like feminism is still invading the entertainment industry...

Can women have it all?

Last month, Ms. Slaughter wrote a piece in the Atlantic newspaper called "Why women still can't have it all":

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/07/why-women-still-can-8217-t-have-it-all/9020/

Opinions have been going viral on the Internet since then!

Suzanne Venker, who is the niece of Phyllis Schlafy, wrote her opinion about it in the National Review:

I agree with her. I think that by now, we have realized that it is just not possible to have an amazing full time career and well loved, adjusted and behaved kids: one of the two, if not both, will suffer!

This is where feminism went wrong: what about the kids? Children under the age of 5 have specific needs that, in my opinion, only a mother can tend to. If not possible,
I think that part time jobs that can easily be combined with motherhood are better, especially if done from home, considering the cost of day care, commuting and eating out!

What is your opinion on this story?

Homemaking goals

There are quite a few elements of homemaking that I have not mastered yet! I'd love to master:

-Breadmaking
-Making pie crust
-Making my own laundry soap (the last atempt has failed big time!)
-Sewing

And so many more! Homemaking is truly an art form, a dying one at that, that encompasses so many subjects!

I also wish to:

-Wear dresses more often. I can get caught up in exercise gear for far too long!
-Wear make up more offen. I don't care for it that much!
-Be more organized! I am organized but just not well enough!
-Wear an apron more often. I don't know anyone in my close circle who wears these anymore!

What about you? What are your homemaking goals?

I have decided to continue writing this blog! I have another blog as well and that is just a future project for now.

I hope that you're enjoying your summer in the company of loved ones!

Have you taken a vacation this summer? If so, I'd love to hear about it!
