Moving and getting rid of things

It is always refreshing to move as sometimes, you just wonder why you've been holding on to things you never use. We got rid of a lot of stuff last spring when we moved, and now that we are moving again, I hope to do the same. It also helps to realize that we are paying for moving space, so the less stuff to move, the less it costs!

Perhaps it will be also time to refresh my wardrobe. I swear there are pieces of clothing I never wear and that I've been keeping in case I wear them again! Now that spring is coming up, it will be a great excuse to go clothes shopping!

What about you, do you get rid of stuff when you move?

The pressure society puts on women

I don't know about you, but I feel that society has been putting a ton of pressure on women to do it all at the same time. If we don't have a career, we are considered lazy and undriven. And of course we have to juggle it all: work full time while being supermom and do almost all household chores...On top of that, we of course all have to be thin and look good!

I don't understand why making money is the only attainable goal in life. If you don't want to be a full time homemaker, then that's fine, but it doesn't mean that we homemakers have to constantly feel put down because we like what we do.

Taking care of a home and a family is a very noble thing to do. Don't let anyone make you feel unworthy for it!

Happy news!

My dear hubby got a job! We are thrilled and feel blessed, and hopefully with the spring coming up, the stress of the last year will vanish and transform into joy! We are in the middle of moving as well this week.

Thank you all for your support and for bearing with my long post hiatuses! I look forward to saving money again as we have lost so much. I am thinking of starting a small home business so that I can have my cake and eat it too, but I want to make sure I take care of our home and hubby first, so I will probably work part time. It is something flexible that I could do throughout my life and that I am truly passionate about! It is not easy being in chronic pain though so I hope I can both work and do all my homemaking. It may even force me to clean better as I will have clients at home!

Taking the time to enjoy things past

My blog is of course centered around retro homemaking, but I fully admit I am more of a retro homemaker by mentality as opposed to doing a retro project. You see, I do not dress retro, nor is my home decor vintage: I just appreciate things we can learn from the past and reject a few modern idealogies that I do not agree with.

I think we could all benefit from having a TV and Internet free day, spending more meal time together as a family, save more money, spend less and find ways to have fun without using technology, which has its good sides but also can be a bit concerning especially if used too much. I see kids being totally hooked by games, cell phones, TV and even Facebook, and it has me concerned that this time should be used in moderation (after all, like I've said, I am not doing a retro project), and not become a priority in their lives.

So this is just my little soap box of today. We could all benefit from making more things with our hands, spending more time with family and friends, reading books and enjoying the outdoors more.

Update

I apologize yet again for another blogging hiatus: a financial crisis means I more than likely need to go back to work soon although I have been a happy housewife for years. So blogging about homemaking has been hard for me to do lately. Crossing fingers our situation will improve soon!
